CHAPTER 26: The Kinetic Advantage

Sarah didn't hesitate.

Using the rapid-response hydraulic ankle of her new prosthesis, she stepped backward, creating an intentional pivot point. She swung her left leg around with terrifying velocity, the solid titanium frame striking Vance’s wrist with a sickening crack.

The gun clattered to the floor, sliding across the dusty carpet. Vance screamed, clutching his broken wrist, stumbling backward into the desk.

I lunged forward, tackling him to the ground, pinning his shoulders against the floorboards. "Where is Arthur Pendelton?" I roared, my forearm pressed against his throat.

"The... the textile mill," Vance gasped, his face turning a deep purple. "The basement levels. They are preparing to move him across the border tonight. Please... let me go. They will kill me!"

I grabbed the brass key from the box, pulled Sarah toward the exit, and left Vance groaning on the floor. As we ran through the ghost foyer, the first drops of a heavy torrential downpour began to strike the glass skylights above.
