Chapter 7 - The Unraveling

The blood-red emergency light cast terrifying shadows across the grand marble foyer of the Belmont estate. Eleanor Belmont stood frozen on the balcony, her hands trembling so violently she nearly dropped her black satellite phone. The four high-society women around her were pale, clutching each other in utter horror as the reality of Robert’s words crushed them.
"You... you're bluffing," Cynthia stammered, her arrogant smirk completely gone. "You can't touch our offshore accounts! Those are protected by private international banking secrecy laws!"
"They were protected," Evelyn Ward’s calm, sharp voice echoed as she walked through the shattered front doors, holding a satellite tablet glowing with green lines of financial data. "Until thirty minutes ago, when the Swiss Banking Authority received a signed federal court order co-signed by the Department of Justice. It turns out, Cynthia, your private trust was heavily involved in illegal human trafficking and money laundering schemes tied to South American cartels."
Evelyn looked up from her tablet with a terrifying, beautiful smile. "Your banking secrecy didn't just fail—it vanished."
"No... NO!" Eleanor shrieked, finally snapping her legendary composure. She frantically began tapping numbers into her black satellite phone, attempting to manually trigger the leak of Chloe's torture video. "I will ruin your daughter! I will make sure her face is on every dark website in the world!"
BANG!
A deafening gunshot echoed through the high-ceiling foyer.
Eleanor screamed as the satellite phone in her hand burst into a shower of black plastic and twisted wire, shot clean out of her grip by Marcus, who stood at the base of the stairs with a silenced rifle raised.
Eleanor stumbled backward, collapsing onto the velvet sofa behind her, clutching her bruised wrist in pure terror.
"The clock just ran out, Eleanor," Robert said quietly, stepping onto the first stair. "My cyber security team didn't just freeze your accounts—they completely wiped the cloud server where you stored that video. The original files have been safely retrieved, encrypted, and locked in a federal evidence vault. The only people who will ever see that footage again are the twelve members of a federal jury."
Outside, the heavy storm was suddenly drowned out by the deafening, rhythmic THUMP-THUMP-THUMP of tactical helicopter blades hovering directly over the mansion's glass roof. Piercing white searchlights cut through the rain, illuminating the grand foyer through the skylights.
BOOM!
The massive glass patio doors at the rear of the estate were shattered inward as dozens of heavily armed FBI SWAT operatives stormed into the residence, their tactical laser sights painting crimson dots across Eleanor Belmont and her terrified inner circle.
"FEDERAL AGENTS! DON'T MOVE! GET ON THE GROUND NOW!"
Screams of panic filled the air as the elite, powerful matriarchs of South Florida society were forced down onto the cold, shattered marble floor. Cynthia was crying hysterically, her expensive silk dress getting ruined in the spilled sherry and broken glass, while Eleanor Belmont stared up at Robert with eyes full of pure, burning hatred.
"You think you've won, Robert Vance?" Eleanor spat, her voice raspy as an agent pulled her arms behind her back, clicking heavy steel handcuffs over her wrinkled wrists. "We have judges in our pockets! We have senators on our payroll! We will be out on bail before sunrise!"
I walked up to the balcony, stepping right over the broken brass vase, and looked down at Eleanor as she was dragged down the stairs.
"You don't have anyone left on your payroll, Eleanor," I said softly, my voice filled with ice. "Because as of five minutes ago, you don't have a single penny left to pay them."
As the federal agents dragged the screaming, sobbing women out into the pouring rain toward awaiting tactical vans, the quiet mansion suddenly felt vast and empty.
Robert stood near the shattered entrance, his suit damp from the rain blowing through the open doorway. He looked exhausted, the dark circles under his eyes revealing the immense toll the night had taken on him.
I walked over to him, standing quietly by his side as we watched the flashing red and blue police lights illuminate the ocean driveway.
"Is it really over now?" I asked softly.
Robert turned to look at me, his eyes softening for the first time since three in the morning. He reached out and gently took my hand, his fingers warm against mine. "The Belmont Group is destroyed, Sarah. Victoria and Lewis will spend the next twenty years in a federal penitentiary. But the hardest part is just beginning."

"What do you mean?" I asked, my stomach tightening.
"Chloe," Robert whispered, his voice cracking slightly. "We destroyed her enemies, but we haven't healed her heart yet."
