Chapter 6 - The Matriarch's Mansion

The heavy rain began falling at 7:00 PM, washing over the iron gates of the massive, oceanfront estate in Star Island, Miami. The property belonged to Eleanor Belmont—an eighty-year-old billionaire philanthropist, social leader, and the undisputed queen of South Florida’s elite society. To the public, she was a soft-spoken widow who donated millions to children’s hospitals. To those who knew the dark underbelly of Miami money, she was the cold-blooded leader of the Belmont Circle.
A fleet of three black SUVs bypassed the security guard post at the estate gates, their engines roaring softly in the torrential downpour. Marcus and six heavily armed private security operatives secured the perimeter in less than ninety seconds, disabling the security cameras with high-powered signal jammers.
Robert and I stepped out of the lead vehicle. I wore a dark raincoat, my hands clutched into tight fists inside my pockets. I was terrified, but the thought of those sadistic women holding a video of my daughter’s torture made every ounce of fear vanish, replaced by an iron determination to protect my child.
Robert didn't bother knocking. Marcus used a heavy hydraulic ram to instantly shatter the lock of the grand mahogany front doors. The heavy doors swung open with a loud CRACK, echoing through the massive marble foyer.
Inside, soft classical violin music was playing. Standing at the top of a grand double staircase was Eleanor Belmont herself, wearing an elegant dark velvet gown, holding a glass of sherry. Surrounding her on the landing were four middle-aged, brilliantly dressed women—the very same high-society matriarchs who had stood in Chloe’s hotel suite hours earlier, laughing while my daughter was beaten bloody.
"You are trespassing, Robert Vance," Eleanor said, her voice smooth, calm, and utterly devoid of fear as she took a slow sip of her drink. "And you brought your common ex-wife with you. How delightfully dramatic."
Robert walked steadily to the center of the foyer, his polished boots clicking against the white marble floor. Marcus and his men lined the lower hall, their tactical weapons pointed directly at the security guards standing on the upper balcony.
"Where is the master drive, Eleanor?" Robert asked, his voice low and deadly quiet.
Eleanor chuckled softly, a cruel, mocking sound that sent a shiver down my spine. "Do you honestly think a man like you can threaten us? We control the banks that fund your construction projects, Robert. We control the political committees that approve your building permits. Victoria was sloppy, yes, but you... you are a foolish, hot-headed father playing a game you cannot possibly comprehend."
One of the women standing beside Eleanor—a dark-haired woman named Cynthia—snickered behind her manicured hand. "Your daughter was so pathetic, Sarah," Cynthia said, looking down at me with pure malice. "Begging for mercy, crying for her mother while we taught her how a proper wife behaves. She didn't look very pretty last night."
A rage so violent and primal erupted inside me that I didn't even think. I rushed forward, grabbing a heavy brass antique vase from the foyer table, and smashed it against the marble floor at the base of the stairs with a deafening CRASH.
"Where is the video?!" I screamed, my voice echoing through the entire mansion. "Where is it, you sick, disgusting monsters?!"
Eleanor’s smile faded slightly at my sudden outburst, but she maintained her cold composure. "The video is already uploaded to an automated cloud server, my dear. If I do not enter a private security code by 8:00 PM tonight—which is precisely nine minutes from now—it will automatically publish to forty international dark-web networks and every major news outlet in the country."
She held up a small, high-tech black satellite phone in her wrinkled hand. "Withdraw all police charges against Victoria and Lewis right now. Sign over the full legal rights to your daughter’s penthouse estate to our trust, and I might just press the delete button. You have nine minutes, Robert."
Robert looked at his wristwatch. The digital numbers read 7:51 PM.
Then, Robert slowly reached into his pocket and pulled out his own phone. He pressed a button on the screen and held it up toward the staircase.
Suddenly, every lights in the massive mansion flickered violently and completely shut off, plunging the entire estate into pitch-black darkness. Gasps and screams of panic echoed from the upper landing as the violin music abruptly cut out.
A second later, the backup emergency red lights clicked on, casting a blood-red glow across the grand foyer.
"What did you do?!" Eleanor demanded, her calm facade finally cracking as her voice rose in anger.
"You think you're the only one who knows how to use technology, Eleanor?" Robert said softly from the shadows of the red-lit room. "Ten minutes ago, my cyber-forensics team bypassed your mansion's private server through your unencrypted smart-home network. We didn't just locate your automated cloud drive—we took complete control of your entire private financial network."
Eleanor’s face turned gray under the red emergency light. "Nonsense! That is impossible!"
Robert’s phone chimed loudly. He read the screen calmly. "Account 8842 in Switzerland... drained. The Belmont Charity Foundation in Liechtenstein... frozen by federal regulators. The secret offshore accounts holding forty million dollars stolen from past victimized brides... transferred to an escrow account held by the Federal District Court."

Eleanor dropped her glass of sherry. It shattered against the marble floor, dark red liquid spreading like blood across her feet.
"You didn't just target my daughter, Eleanor," Robert whispered, stepping into the red light at the foot of the stairs, looking like a demon rising from the depths. "You built a criminal enterprise on the tears of innocent young girls. And in exactly eight minutes, the FBI is going to walk through those doors with a hundred-page federal racketeering indictment."
