Chapter 2 - The Bloodline’s Awakening

The silence inside my living room had turned into a suffocating, heavyweight monster. Robert did not scream, nor did he break the nearest crystal vase like he used to do years ago when his temper got the better of him. Instead, he dropped heavily to his knees right beside the plush sofa, his rough hands trembling slightly as they hovered above Chloe’s badly battered, blood-stained body.

"Baby girl..." he whispered, his voice cracking with a raw, agonizing pain I hadn't heard from him in over ten years.

Chloe’s swollen eyes fluttered open slowly through the dried tears and mascara. "Dad..." she whimpered, her voice barely a breath.

When Robert’s dark eyes swept across the brutal purple handprints bruised into her porcelain skin and the horrific deep red stains soaking through her silk wedding gown, something inside him shattered—and then instantly hardened into sheer, ice-cold fury. The former corporate ruthless titan, the man who had built a real estate empire in Florida by crushing every single enemy in his path, was fully back.

He stood up smoothly, turning to face me with eyes colder than a winter storm in the Arctic. "Who has the legal marriage license, Sarah?"

The sudden, chilling composure in his voice sent a shiver down my spine. "What?"

"The license," Robert repeated coldly, staring past me. "Did they officially file it at the courthouse before the ceremony, or was it just signed at the hotel?"

Chloe swallowed hard, wincing in pain. "We signed the official court documents... yesterday afternoon, Dad."

"And the condo?" Robert asked, his jaw clenching so tight I could hear his teeth grinding. "Did you sign any quitclaim deed or property agreement?"

"No," she sobbed softly. "Victoria brought a folder full of legal papers to the suite right after Lewis left. She told me if I signed over the full ownership to Lewis, they would treat me like a true daughter. When I said no... that was when she grabbed my hair."

Robert took a deep breath, stepping toward the high-ceiling glass windows that overlooked the glittering Miami skyline. He pulled out his phone and made three immediate calls.

The first call went to his personal, highly discreet private doctor. "Dr. Patel. Get to Sarah’s high-rise penthouse immediately. My daughter has been viciously assaulted. Bring complete forensic medical kits, camera equipment, and high-level pain management. Keep it off the public hospital grid for now, but document every single millimeter of damage."

The second call was to Evelyn Ward, the most feared trial attorney in the entire state of Florida—the very woman who had ruthlessly torn through our own divorce assets a decade ago. "Evelyn," Robert said softly into the receiver. "I need emergency restraining orders, an immediate annulment filing on the grounds of severe physical coercion and marital fraud, and a full team ready to lock down every single bank account tied to the Dudley family by sunrise."

The third call was the shortest, yet the most terrifying. "Marcus," Robert said to his private chief of security. "Pull up every piece of dirt on Victoria Dudley and her corporate lawyer son, Lewis. Tax filings, off-shore holdings, secret lovers, illegal offshore transactions, past domestic complaints. I want their entire lives turned inside out before the sun comes up."

I watched him in total shock. For ten years, I had resented this man for choosing his brutal business empire over our family. But tonight, standing in my living room with dark fury radiating from his very core, I realized that Victoria Dudley had made the most lethal mistake of her life. She thought she was beating down a helpless, fatherless rich girl to steal a two-million-dollar condo. She had no idea she had just declared war on a man who owned half the judges and city officials in the district.

Dr. Patel arrived thirty minutes later, his face growing darker with every bruise he photographed under the harsh white lights of my bedroom. "Forty strikes is an understatement, Robert," Dr. Patel said quietly as he stepped out into the hallway. "Her back has severe soft tissue trauma, her lower lip requires internal stitches, and her wrists show clear evidence of being forcibly restrained while the assault took place. This was deliberate torture."

Robert didn't speak. He simply pulled out his gold fountain pen, signed a blank check, and handed it to the doctor. "Keep three nurses stationed outside this apartment door starting right now."

At five in the morning, the heavy iron knock echoed through the foyer. I held my breath, fearing Lewis or his mother had tracked Chloe to my building. But when Robert opened the door, it was Evelyn Ward herself, dressed impeccably in a sharp gray power suit, carrying a thick black leather briefcase.

Evelyn didn't even say hello. She looked at Chloe resting on the couch, looked at the blood-stained wedding gown lying on the marble table, and smiled a slow, predatory smile. "Victoria Dudley thinks her family is old money," Evelyn said, unzipping her briefcase. "Let's show her what real money does to people who touch what isn't theirs."
