Chapter 12 - The Zurich Wire and the Prison Break

Within two hours of Brenda Vance’s revelation, my penthouse was transformed into a high-stakes intelligence operations hub. Special Agent Daniel Reeves sat around my dining table with two forensic analysts from the Department of Homeland Security’s financial crimes division, cross-referencing Brenda’s thirty-year-old settlement files against real-time international SWIFT transaction logs.
"Brenda’s documents are authentic," Agent Reeves declared, rubbing his tired eyes under the glare of multiple monitor screens. "Arthur didn't just hide assets; he created a dormant testamentary trust in Zurich under the alias 'Aegis Sentinel LLC' back in 1996. The signature card matches Arthur’s handwriting perfectly."
"And the transfer?" I asked, leaning over his shoulder.
"A wire instruction was initiated six hours ago from an offshore server in Cyprus," a forensic analyst reported, his fingers flying across a mechanical keyboard. "Thirty-five million dollars in liquid capital is currently moving through an intermediate clearing bank in Frankfurt. Destination: a private security contractor registered in Panama called Vanguard Logistics."
Rachel adjusted her glasses, pointing a pen at the terminal. "Vanguard Logistics isn't a legitimate security firm. They are an elite mercenary transport syndicate known for high-risk extractions and private rendition. They’ve been contracted to intercept the federal transport van scheduled to move Ethan from MCC New York to ADX Florence tomorrow at dawn."
My heart hammered against my ribs, not from fear, but from the realization of how utterly corrupt and unrepentant my father truly was. Even from inside a maximum-security cell at Green Haven, Arthur was pulling strings, using stolen blood money to bust his golden boy out of federal custody while leaving the rest of the world to burn.
"We can't just block the wire," I said, a dangerous plan forming in my mind. "If we freeze the Swiss account right now, the mercenary contract gets canceled, the conspirators scatter into the wind, and Arthur hides the paper trail behind international legal red tape. We need to catch the entire network red-handed."
"What are you proposing, Claire?" Reeves asked, looking up with keen interest.
"I built my cybersecurity company by writing real-time packet-interception protocols for institutional banking rails," I answered coldly. "We let the Frankfurt clearinghouse process the transaction, but we inject a cryptographic routing script into the SWIFT payload. We redirect the thirty-five million dollars directly into a federal escrow forfeiture account controlled by the Southern District of New York. Then, we let the transport van roll out of MCC exactly as scheduled."
Brenda smiled a slow, predatory smile from the corner of the room. "A classic bait-and-switch. The mercenaries show up expecting thirty-five million in their offshore account, only to find zero balance and a federal tactical team waiting in the ambush zone."
"Agent Reeves," I said, my voice hardening to steel. "Can the FBI coordinate with the U.S. Marshals Special Operations Group on twelve hours' notice?"
Reeves reached for his secure satellite phone. "We’ve been waiting for a reason to dismantle Arthur Morgan’s dirty network for five years. Give me fifteen minutes."

By 3:00 a.m., my custom routing payload was deployed into the European banking stream. The thirty-five million dollars vanished into the U.S. Marshals Asset Forfeiture account with absolute, silent precision.
At 5:30 a.m., under a gray, foggy drizzle on the westbound lane of Interstate 80, the armored transport carrying Ethan Morgan rolled out into the dawn.
