Chapter 14 - The Traitor’s Price

The arrest of Victoria Holloway and Julian Vance sent shockwaves through what remained of the Holloway legal defense team. Within forty-eight hours, the remaining eighty million dollars in offshore trusts was seized and transferred into the federal victim restitution fund.
The final trial for the secondary conspiracy took place in the federal district court of Boston.
Because Richard Holloway was already serving his forty-year sentence in a maximum-security facility, he was brought into the courtroom in full restraints—a heavy leather belt around his waist, his hands cuffed to his sides, wearing an orange jumpsuit with his grey hair unkempt and long. He looked like a shell of a man, his eyes hollow and vacant.
Grant was brought in right behind him. The months in prison had stripped away every shred of his former arrogance. He looked thin, terrified, and refused to look anyone in the eye.
Deputy Attorney General Lena Ortiz stood before the bench, presenting the newly recovered server drives, the wiretap audio from the Vance estate, and the detailed digital paper trail showing how Victoria had tried to fund an assassination attempt against Emily.
Judge Prescott did not hesitate. His final sentencing was swift and absolute.
Victoria Holloway was sentenced to thirty years without parole in a federal women's facility. Julian Vance received twenty-five years for financial terrorism and obstruction of justice.
And for Richard and Grant, the judge added an additional fifteen years to their existing sentences, ensuring that neither man would ever walk free on American soil again.
As the marshals prepared to take the defendants away through the side exit, Grant suddenly stopped. He turned his head toward the gallery where Emily and I were sitting.
"Emily..." Grant rasped, his voice barely a whisper. "Please... talk to them. Tell them to move me to a medium-security block. I can't survival in Fort Dix... please..."
Emily stood up from her seat. She walked down to the wooden partition separating the gallery from the well of the court. She looked down at the man she had once trusted with her heart, her expression cold, clear, and completely free of pain.
"You built your own cage, Grant," Emily said, her voice echoing clearly off the high mahogany walls. "Now you have to live in it."
Grant burst into tears as the federal marshals yanked his chains, pulling him through the heavy iron doors into the dark corridor beyond. The doors slammed shut with a heavy, metallic thud—a sound that signaled the absolute, final end of the Holloway dynasty.
I put my hand on Emily's shoulder, feeling her pull a deep, cleansing breath into her lungs.

"It's over, Dad," she whispered.
"It's over, Em," I replied. "Now we go home."
