Chapter 6 - The Clean Break

The fallout from the arrests at Moretti Enterprises sent shockwaves through the financial capitals of New York, London, and Milan. Within forty-eight hours, headlines across the country exposed the sensational betrayal: an empire nearly stolen through the systematic chemical incapacitation of its rightful heir by his own younger brother.
Adrian moved with ruthless, surgical efficiency. He did not grant a single television interview, nor did he issue dramatic press statements. Instead, he let his actions speak through the legal system.
By Friday afternoon, Aegis Holdings was officially dissolved by federal court order, its stolen assets returned entirely to the parent company. Julian Vance agreed to a full plea deal, providing hundreds of pages of encrypted emails, ledger entries, and audio recordings that definitively proved Dominic and Salvatore had orchestrated the scheme from the very beginning.
Salvatore, facing twenty-five years in federal prison with no possibility of bail due to flight risk, suffered a minor heart attack in his holding cell and was transferred to a secure medical ward under armed guard.
Dominic remained in the Suffolk County House of Correction. His high-priced defense attorneys had attempted three separate times to request bail, but Adrian’s legal team blocked every motion by presenting evidence of offshore accounts Dominic had prepared in non-extradition territories.
Adrian sat in the back of his chauffeured sedan, looking out the tinted window as the vehicle pulled up to the heavy iron gates of the correctional facility.
Gabriel turned around from the front passenger seat. “You don't have to do this, Adrian. The plea agreement will be finalized by next week. He’s going to serve at least twelve years at a federal correctional institution in Pennsylvania.”
“I need to close the door myself, Gabriel,” Adrian said calmly.
Ten minutes later, Adrian sat in a private, glass-partitioned visitation room. The room smelled of industrial bleach and stale coffee.
The heavy steel door on the opposite side opened, and a guard escorted Dominic inside.
In less than five days, Dominic looked like a shadow of his former self. The tailored Italian suits were gone, replaced by a drab orange jumpsuit that hung loosely on his frame. His styled hair was messy, his face pale and unshaven, and his hands shook uncontrollably as he sat down on the bolted metal stool.
Dominic lifted the plastic telephone receiver with trembling fingers.
Adrian picked up his receiver on the other side of the bulletproof glass.
“Adrian,” Dominic’s voice crackled through the earpiece, raspy and broken. “You came. I knew you’d come. You talked to Vance? You’re dropping the criminal charges?”
Adrian looked at him in silence for five long seconds.
“I didn't come to negotiate, Dominic,” Adrian said evenly.
Dominic’s eyes widened with fresh panic. “Then why are you here? To gloat? To see me like this?”
“I came to bring you this,” Adrian replied. He reached into his coat pocket and held a single sheet of paper against the glass.
It was a certified copy of the revised Moretti Family Trust.
“Your name has been removed from every trust, every property deed, every stock grant, and every family heirloom,” Adrian stated with absolute clarity. “As of noon today, you legally own nothing. When you finish your sentence in twelve years, you will walk out of prison with exactly what you were born with: nothing.”
Dominic slammed his palms against the glass, screaming in rage. “You can’t do that! That money belongs to our father! Half of that empire is mine!”
“Our father built an empire on loyalty,” Adrian said, his voice chillingly steady. “You threw that away for three drops of poison in a porcelain cup.”

Dominic broke down, pressing his forehead against the cold partition, weeping uncontrollably. “Please, Adrian... I’m your little brother. Don't leave me here alone. Please.”
Adrian slowly lowered the receiver, placed it back on its metal cradle, and stood up. He did not look back as he walked out of the visitation room, leaving Dominic’s muffled screams trapped behind the soundproof glass forever.
