Chapter 12 - Bloodline Reckoning

The private conference room on the fiftieth floor of the Boston Financial Center offered a breathtaking, panoramic view of the Atlantic sunrise. Thick crimson clouds stretched across the horizon, casting a bloody reflection over the glass towers of the financial district.

Victoria Moretti-Sterling sat at the head of the long glass conference table, looking radiant in an emerald-green tailored suit. Beside her sat two corporate attorneys from a prominent Manhattan firm, their briefcases open, pen caps unscrewed, waiting for the execution of the transfer documents.

At exactly 8:45 AM, the double doors opened.

Adrian walked in alone. He carried a single, slim leather portfolio under his arm. His face was composed, his suit immaculate, his eyes sharp and unreadable.

Victoria offered a triumphant, condescending smile. “Right on time, Adrian. I see you made the rational choice. Family should always resolve their disputes in private, wouldn't you agree?”

“We’re not family, Victoria,” Adrian said, sitting down at the opposite end of the table and placing his portfolio on the glass surface. “We’re just two people who share a grandfather and an appetite for leverage.”

Victoria chuckled softly, gesturing to her lead attorney. “Let’s skip the philosophical reflections. Do you have the board authorization and the initial capital release forms for Sterling Capital?”

“I have something better,” Adrian replied.

He opened his portfolio and slid three separate documents across the polished glass table toward Victoria.

She looked down, her smile fading slightly as she read the letterhead of the first document: United States District Court, District of Massachusetts – Emergency Subpoena & Search Warrant.

“What is this theatrical nonsense?” Victoria snapped, her voice tightening.

“That is an emergency federal search warrant executed at six o'clock this morning on your luxury suite at the Four Seasons Hotel,” Adrian said with chilling calmness. “Along with an arrest warrant for witness tampering, attempted criminal poisoning, and conspiracy to commit extortion.”

Victoria’s attorneys instantly recoiled from the table, their hands pulling back from their pens as if the glass had caught fire.

“You’re bluffing,” Victoria sneered, though a faint twitch beneath her left eye betrayed her sudden panic. “You have nothing! A forged court paper won't stop me from sending my father’s archive to the press at noon!”

“Your father’s archive is already in the hands of the United States Attorney, Victoria,” Adrian said. “Along with a comprehensive forensic report compiled by Dr. Sterling and the MIT Digital Forensics Laboratory. They matched the digital metadata of Salvatore’s scanned documents to a commercial flatbed scanner registered to Salvatore’s private yacht in San Remo back in 2004. Salvatore forged Carlo’s signature to cover an eight-million-dollar maritime debt he incurred with Sicilian loan sharks.”

Victoria’s breath caught in her throat. “That... that doesn't clear Carlo’s name! The company still benefited from the transactions!”

“The statute of limitations on commercial maritime transfers from 2001 expired over a decade ago,” Adrian explained, his voice cutting through the room like a steel blade. “Salvatore’s forgery is legally irrelevant to the current corporate entity. But your actions over the last forty-eight hours? Those are very fresh, very active federal felonies.”

Adrian tapped the second sheet of paper on the table.

“That is the signed confession from Elena Gomez, the domestic maid you bribed with fifty thousand dollars to introduce synthetic neurotoxins into my private tea canister last night,” Adrian said. “The bank routing number on the escrow deposit matches the Cayman subsidiary account linked to your late husband’s trust in London.”

Victoria leaped to her feet, knocking her leather chair backward against the floor. “You set me up!”

“You set yourself up, Victoria,” Adrian said softly, remaining seated, looking at her with the cold pity one might offer a dying insect. “You thought because Dominic caught me off guard while I was grieving my father, I was weak. You thought because I survived one snake in my house, I wouldn't recognize another when she knocked on my door.”

The conference room doors swung open violently.

Gabriel stepped inside, flanked by four armed federal marshals and Special Agent Miller of the FBI’s financial crimes division.

“Victoria Moretti-Sterling?” Agent Miller announced, stepping forward with a pair of steel handcuffs. “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.”

Victoria’s attorneys immediately stood up, packing their files in frantic haste. “We are withdrawing our representation effective immediately. We had no prior knowledge of these allegations.”

“Cowards!” Victoria screamed, thrashing as the federal marshals grabbed her wrists and pinned them behind her back. She locked her wild, manic eyes on Adrian, spitting venom across the room. “You think you’ve won, Adrian? You think this ends with me? Our family is rotten to the root! There are more of us! Salvatore’s partners in Palermo, the lenders in Zurich—they will tear your precious empire apart piece by piece!”

Adrian stood up slowly, buttoning his jacket. He walked over to where Victoria was being restrained, stopping six inches from her face.

“Let them come,” Adrian whispered, his voice steady as iron. “And when they do, I’ll be wide awake.”
