Chapter 6: The Visitor in Sector 4

The drive back from the prison was dead silent. Daniel stared out the passenger window at the gray rain lashing against the highway, his mind racing. The pieces of the puzzle were shifting, forming a picture far more terrifying than a corporate coup.

"We have to tell Nathan," Daniel finally said.

"If we tell him, he’ll panic, and a panicked billionaire with private security resources creates a target-rich environment," Laura argued, her hands tight on the steering wheel. "We need to verify what Marcus said first. If there's a global syndicate called the Meridian Group, they will have left financial footprints. No one moves that much capital without leaving a trail."

Instead of heading back to the precinct, Laura pulled into the underground parking garage of a non-descript federal building downtown. This was Sector 4, the cyber-crimes and counter-terrorism division. If anyone could track the ghost server in Reykjavik or find a hidden global syndicate, it was the specialists here.

They were met by Special Agent Avery Chen, a brilliant cyber-forensics expert who had assisted in the initial raid on Victor Hale’s offices. Chen led them into a secure lab filled with humming servers and massive wall-mounted displays.

"I’ve been analyzing the Reykjavik download since you called," Chen said without preamble, tapping a sequence on his keyboard. A global map appeared on the main screen, with glowing red lines originating from Iceland and stretching across the Atlantic, terminating at a residential IP address in a wealthy suburb of Boston.

Daniel’s blood ran cold. "Where is that address, Avery?"

"It’s registered to a holding company," Chen replied, zooming in on the map. "But the physical location is less than three miles from the Holloway estate. It's a safe house."

"They're already here," Laura whispered, drawing her service weapon to check the magazine. "They aren't planning an operation from Europe. They are actively staging a kidnapping."

"Wait, there’s more," Chen intercepted, pulling up a decrypted ledger from the ghost server. "Marcus was right. Look at these financial transfers. Millions of dollars moving through shell companies in Panama, the Cayman Islands, and Zurich. All of them authorized by a singular entity listed only as 'Meridian Prime'. But look at the date of the last transaction."

Daniel leaned closer to the screen. The date was from that morning, less than four hours ago. A payment of five million dollars had been wired to an elite, dark-web mercenary contractor known for high-profile abductions.

"The contract has been greenlit," Daniel said, a sudden wave of adrenaline hitting his system. "They aren't waiting for the trial or the legal fallout. They are moving on the house tonight."

"Avery, call the local tactical units and have them converge on the Holloway estate immediately," Laura ordered, already running toward the exit. "Daniel, call Nathan. Tell him to get Emily and Hope into the panic room and do not open the door for anyone until we get there."

Daniel pulled out his phone as they slammed through the exit doors, sprinting toward their vehicle. The phone rang once, twice, three times. Every second felt like an eternity.

Finally, Nathan’s voice came through the speaker, sounding relaxed, a stark contrast to the chaos about to erupt. "Hey, Daniel. Everything okay?"

"Nathan, listen to me very carefully," Daniel shouted over the roar of the car engine as Laura peeled out of the garage. "You are under immediate threat. A tactical team is heading to your house right now. Take Emily, take Hope, and get into the secure bunker. Do not look back. Go now!"

Through the phone, Daniel heard a sudden, sharp smash of glass in the distance, followed by the terrifying sound of automatic gunfire.
