Chapter 6

Chapter 6 - BREATHING FREEThree hundred miles away, in a quiet, coastal town in Maine where the air smelled of salt and pine, Clara became Sarah. Leo had arranged everything—a small, shingled cottage overlooking the ocean, a clean bank account under her new legal identity, and a local doctor who didn't ask too many questions about her past. For the first few weeks, Clara would wake up in a panic, expecting Ethan to throw open the door or Eleanor to be standing over her bed with a look of icy contempt. But as the days rolled into months, the constant state of fear began to melt away. She spent her afternoons sitting on the porch, watching the waves crash against the rocks, her hands resting peacefully on her growing belly.

Her baby boy was thriving. Free from the toxic stress of the Miller estate, Clara felt her own strength returning. She ate well, walked along the beach, and worked closely with Leo via encrypted messages, organizing the mountain of financial fraud and domestic abuse evidence they had compiled against the Miller family.

"You're doing amazing, Clara," Leo told her during one of their brief, weekly check-ins. "The public has no idea yet, but the trap is set. When we file the paperwork, it’s going to be an absolute earthquake. Just focus on staying safe and healthy for the baby."

For the first time in her adult life, Clara felt like she was the author of her own destiny. She was no longer a victim; she was a mother protecting her cub, and she was growing more dangerous by the day.
