Chapter 11 - The Flight Home

One year later.
The private runway at Denver International Airport was swept by a gentle autumn breeze under a brilliant, clear blue sky. Standing on the tarmac was a sleek, white Gulfstream jet bearing the discreet, silver emblem of Callahan Global.
I stood near the boarding stairs, wearing a stunning white cashmere coat, looking out over the familiar Rocky Mountain skyline in the distance.
Two years ago, I had boarded a commercial flight from this exact airport carrying two battered suitcases, a broken stroller, eighty-four dollars in my bank account, and a heart shattered into a million pieces. I had fled this city as a broken survivor, terrified of what tomorrow would bring.
Today, I was returning as Hannah Callahan.
"Thinking about the past, Mrs. Callahan?" a deep, smooth voice spoke from behind me.
I turned to see Luke walking up the tarmac toward me. He looked impossibly handsome in his tailored suit, holding two cups of hot coffee from my favorite local Denver bakery.
"I was," I admitted softly, taking one of the coffee cups from his hand, leaning up to press a sweet, lingering kiss against his jaw. "It's strange being back here, Luke. It feels like a lifetime ago."
"It was a lifetime ago," Luke corrected gently, putting his arm around my waist, pulling me close against his side as we looked out at the mountains together. "That woman who left Denver two years ago was brave, Hannah. But the woman standing here today... she owns her own company, she runs her own life, and she has a husband who adores her more than life itself."
"And a daughter who insists on steering the airplane," a voice called out from the top of the Gulfstream boarding stairs.
Commander Miller stepped out onto the landing, holding three-year-old Poppy in his arms. Poppy was wearing a little pilot’s cap, holding a wooden toy airplane in her hand, grinning from ear to ear.
"Captain Poppy is requesting permission to board, Mr. Callahan!" Miller announced with a crisp military salute.
"Permission granted, Captain!" Luke laughed, waving back at her.
Poppy giggled, turning to run inside the luxurious cabin of the private jet, where Beth was already waiting with snacks and coloring books for our flight home to Maryland. We were returning from a brief trip to Denver, where I had officially finalized the sale of Eric's former townhouse—closing the very last chapter of my past for good. Eric was currently serving a seven-year sentence in a federal correctional facility in Colorado, while Victoria Callahan and Julian Vance were facing decades in federal prison following their convictions in Manhattan.
"Ready to go home, my love?" Luke asked softly, turning me in his arms so he could look into my eyes.
I looked up at my husband—the titan who had protected me, the man who had folded paper birds for my daughter, the love of my life who had given me everything I had ever dreamed of.
"I'm always home when I'm with you, Luke," I whispered, reaching up to wrap my arms around his neck.
Luke smiled, a breathtaking, radiant smile, and pulled me into a deep, passionate kiss right there on the sunny tarmac under the vast Colorado sky. There were no paparazzi hiding in the shadows anymore. There were no tabloids spinning malicious lies. There was only the quiet, triumphant truth of our love.
Hand in hand, we walked up the boarding stairs together into the warm, luxurious cabin of the jet.

As the powerful engines roared to life and the aircraft swept smoothly down the runway, ascending effortlessly into the bright, endless clouds above, I leaned my head back against Luke’s broad shoulder. He took my hand, lacing his strong fingers through mine, the diamond on my finger catching the brilliant sunlight streaming through the cabin window.
I closed my eyes with a deep, peaceful sigh, holding my husband's hand tightly as we soared far above the world below, flying home to the beautiful life we had built together.
