Chapter 10 - The European Ambush

Richard Vance’s eyebrows twitched slightly. The arrogant composure that had served him for half a century flickered as he watched me laugh in the face of his ultimate threat.

"Do you find financial ruin humorous, Nora?" Richard asked, his voice tightening.

"I find your predictability tragic, Richard," I said, sliding the settlement document back across the table without even opening it. "You spent seven years hiding in Switzerland and Luxembourg, watching through shell companies, assuming that every move I made was reactive."

"The financial facts are unassailable," his lead attorney interjected nervously. "The 2008 charter clearly states—"

"The 2008 charter was superseded by the 2018 Salgado-Vance Restructuring Act," Laura interrupted, opening her briefcase and placing three blue-bound volumes on the table. "Signed by Arthur Salgado and certified by the Swiss Federal Audit Board."

Richard’s face hardened. "That restructuring act was never ratified by my board!"

"It was ratified by your proxy, Chloe Bennett, six months ago when she surrendered the Delaware shell company records to the United States Department of Justice," I revealed.

Richard turned his sharp gaze toward his legal team, who suddenly looked frantic as they began scanning the blue documents.

"You thought you were setting a trap for me in Monte Carlo," I continued, leaning over the table, my eyes locking onto his. "You thought that by inviting me to neutral European ground, you were safe from extradition. You assumed that because Monaco is an independent principality, your U.S. federal warrants couldn't touch you here."

Richard’s knuckles turned white as he gripped the edge of the mahogany table. "Monaco has no extradition treaty with the United States for corporate civil disputes!"

"That is correct," Agent Thorne’s voice echoed from the back of the room as he stepped forward, pulling an official red leather badge from his jacket pocket. "Monaco does not extradite for civil corporate disputes, Mr. Vance. But they have an absolute zero-tolerance policy for international human trafficking and child abduction conspiracy."

The heavy double doors of the boardroom burst open.

Four uniformed officers of the Principauté de Monaco Police Directorate marched into the room, flanked by two representatives from Interpol holding international Red Notices.

Richard stood up abruptly, his chair flipping backward and crashing onto the floor. "What is the meaning of this?! I am a registered resident of Switzerland! This is an illegal detention!"

"Mr. Richard Vance," the lead Interpol officer announced in heavily accented English, pulling out a set of steel handcuffs. "You are under arrest pursuant to an international warrant issued by the International Criminal Court in the Netherlands."

Richard’s face drained of all color. "On what grounds?!"

"On the grounds of financing an illegal international child removal scheme," Laura announced calmly. "The Swiss estate you purchased four months ago—the one intended to hide my client's son—was purchased using funds directly traced to your personal accounts in Geneva. You didn't just help Brandon plan Liam's abduction; you personally funded the international safehouses and secured fake diplomatic passports for the child."

"That was Brandon's operation!" Richard shouted, his calm facade completely shattering into desperate panic as the Monaco police seized his arms. "He forged my credentials! I had no knowledge of the child's relocation!"

"We have the wire transfers, Richard," I said, standing up and looking down at him as the officers pinned his wrists behind his back. "We have the encrypted voice logs between you and Victoria from the night Liam was born. You told her that once the child was in Zurich, Nora Salgado would never see her son again."

Richard struggled against the officers, his expensive suit rumpling, his silver hair falling messily over his forehead. He looked at me, no longer the master strategist, but a cornered rat realizing that the trap he had spent a decade building had closed tightly around his own neck.

"You bitch!" Richard snarled, his voice echoing off the luxury boardroom walls as the police began forcing him toward the door. "You ruined my family! You ruined my son!"

"Your family ruined itself the moment you decided to treat a human life like a corporate asset," I said, my voice cold, calm, and absolute. "Give my regards to Brandon when they place you in the same federal facility."

The officers dragged Richard Vance out of the boardroom, his furious curses fading down the marble hallway until the luxury suite was completely silent once again.

Laura closed her portfolio with a satisfying snap. Agent Thorne looked over at me, nodding in silent respect.

"The European arbitration claim is officially dead, Nora," Laura said softly. "Apex Global’s assets are completely clear. Permanently."

I stepped out onto the private balcony of the suite, looking out over the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. The cool breeze blew through my hair, washing away the last lingering shadows of the Vance family legacy.

I pulled my phone from my pocket and dialed my home in Del Mar.

"Hello?" Uncle Howard’s warm voice answered on the first ring.

"Uncle Howard," I said, a genuine, joyful smile breaking across my face. "Put Liam on the phone."

A second later, I heard the sweet, babbling voice of my son. "Mama! Mama home?"

"Mama is coming home, baby," I whispered, tears of pure relief warming my eyes. "Mama is coming home right now."
