Chapter 1

THE MISSING WIFE WHO ENDED UP WORKING AS A MAID IN HER OWN MANSION

Chapter 1: The Truth Unveiled

The sound of the crystal glass shattering against the marble floor still echoed through the massive ballroom as Vivian Moretti stepped back slowly.

Red wine pooled across the pristine white surface like spilled blood under the golden glow of the chandeliers. No one dared to move. No one dared to even breathe too loudly. Alejandro Castillo had stopped looking like an elegant billionaire businessman; right now, he looked like a man ready to destroy anything he touched.

Elena was still trembling beneath the heavy wool coat he had just draped over her bare, bruised shoulders. Her tear-filled eyes couldn't break away from his face.

Three years. Three agonizing years of believing she would never see him again. And now he was here, standing right in front of her, looking at her as if the entire world had just risen from the dead.

Vivian tried desperately to regain control of the room. “Alejandro… please, this isn’t what it looks like—”

“Silence.”

The word was quiet. Low. Lethal.

Vivian choked back her words instantly. Even the surrounding estate servants lowered their heads, terrified to witness the storm brewing.

Alejandro gently took Elena’s cold, rough hands into his own. As his fingers brushed against her skin, he felt something that completely shattered his soul: scar tissue. Small, thin, recent scars from harsh manual labor. His eyes hardened into ice.

“Who did this to you?”

Elena swallowed hard, her throat tight. But before she could speak, Vivian interjected frantically, “She’s lying! She showed up here months ago with no money, no identification, and a completely fractured memory! I had no idea who she was!”

Alejandro slowly lifted his gaze to Vivian. “Then explain something to me.” His voice was calm—far too calm. “Why did my missing wife end up scrubbing floors barefoot in this house, while you slept in our master bedroom?”

Vivian completely lost all color in her face. She had no answer.

Elena began to weep silently. Alejandro looked back at her, his expression twisting with immense grief. “What happened to you, my love?”

That word—my love—finally broke her down completely. Elena covered her trembling mouth with a shaky hand.

“I was kidnapped,” she whispered.

A suffocating freeze swept through the mansion. Alejandro felt his heart stop beating. “What?”

Tears streamed down Elena’s hollow cheeks. “The day I disappeared… I was leaving the foundation's children's hospital. Someone intentionally rammed my car. I woke up weeks later in a private clinic in Croatia. They heavily drugged me, told me I had suffered severe brain damage, that you had moved on with your life, and that no one was looking for me.”

Alejandro stood paralyzed. Vivian froze too, because this part of the nightmare was clearly a twist she hadn't anticipated.

Elena took a ragged breath. “They stripped me of my passport, my documents, and moved me from one facility to another. When I finally escaped a few months ago, I had absolutely nothing. I was a ghost.”

Alejandro’s fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned white. Pure, unadulterated fury vibrated through his chest. “Why didn’t you come straight to me?”

Elena lowered her gaze to the floor. “Because I saw the society magazines in a transit station. You and Vivian… the charity galas, the high-profile parties, the headlines hinting at a new romance. I genuinely thought you had forgotten me.”

Vivian opened her mouth rapidly. “That means nothing! The press invents stories all the time!”

Alejandro didn’t even look at her. His entire universe was pinned on Elena. “And then you came here…”

She nodded slowly. “I didn’t want the media to recognize my face in public before I knew the truth. I just needed a job, food, a safe place to hide for a few days.” Her voice cracked. “I had no idea Vivian had moved into this estate.”

Suddenly, every piece of the puzzle fell into place. Vivian had systematically used Elena’s absence to worm her way into Alejandro’s life—the intimate dinners, the carefully staged photographs, the public appearances. She was always close, always waiting like a vulture to occupy the empty throne. And when Elena unexpectedly resurfaced, vulnerable and broken, Vivian hadn't helped her. She had turned her into a barefoot servant in her own home.

Alejandro closed his eyes for a single second. When he opened them, the gentle man was entirely gone.

“Ellen,” he called out.

The head of estate staff raised her head immediately. “Yes, Mr. Castillo.”

“Call my personal security team.” Vivian took a panicked step back. “Alejandro, please, listen to me—”

“And then,” Alejandro continued, his eyes locked on Vivian, “call International Interpol.”

Elena looked up in shock. Vivian began to shake violently. “What are you doing?!”

Alejandro walked toward her, each step heavy and deliberate. “I am going to find out exactly who made my wife disappear for three years.”

Vivian’s breathing became erratic. “I had nothing to do with her abduction! You can't prove anything!”

“Perhaps not.” He stopped inches away from her, towering over her with absolute contempt. “But you certainly enjoyed the inheritance. You draped yourself in my wife's jewels. You slept in her bed… while she washed your floors barefoot.”

Vivian broke out into hysterical tears, but the time for mercy had long passed.

“Throw her out of my sight. Drag her out if you have to.”

The security guards moved in immediately, grabbing Vivian by her arms. “Alejandro! Listen to me! You can’t do this!”

May you like

He didn't react. He didn't even turn around to watch her get dragged past the threshold. His only focus was Elena, who had just collapsed weakly against his chest. The sheer exhaustion of her survival had finally claimed her body. Alejandro caught her effortlessly, scooping her up into his arms.

For the first time in three long years, the most powerful billionaire in Europe looked completely undone.
