Chapter 15 - The Sovereign Crown

The Grand Palais in Paris was bathed in ethereal golden light on a crisp November evening in 2028. It was the biennial World Economic and Philanthropic Summit, where heads of state, global financial leaders, and foundational pioneers gathered to set the agenda for the coming decade.
Tonight, the keynote address belonged to Vance Global Holdings.
I stood in the private green room behind the main auditorium stage, adjusting the cuffs of my bespoke emerald-green velvet evening suit. Beside me, Arthur Sterling handed me the final teleprompter notes.
“The international delegates from eighty-four nations have taken their seats, Genevieve,” Arthur noted quietly. “The global broadcast has an estimated live viewership of sixty million people.”
“And the family?” I asked.
“Harrison is in the front row of the presidential box with Hazel,” Arthur smiled. “Hazel insisted on wearing her Vance crest pin alongside her red bracelet.”
I smiled softly. Hazel was now nearly ten, growing into a poised, compassionate, and fiercely intelligent young woman. She was no longer just the child I had protected from the Montgomery wreckage; she was becoming the future of everything we had built.
The master of ceremonies’ voice resonated through the heavy backstage curtains, echoing in four languages across the vast auditorium.
“Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished leaders, and honored guests. Please welcome the recipient of this year’s Global Leadership and Humanity Sovereign Award—Chairwoman and Chief Executive Officer of Vance Global Holdings, Ms. Genevieve Vance.”
The auditorium erupted into a standing ovation.
I took a deep, steady breath, lifted my chin, and walked through the parting curtains into the dazzling sea of stage lights.
As I approached the crystal podium, the applause rolled through the hall like thunder. I looked up toward the presidential box. Harrison Vance sat tall, his hands resting on his silver cane, smiling with tears of profound pride in his eyes. Beside him, Hazel was clapping with all her might, her eyes locked onto mine with absolute love and admiration.
I raised my hand, and the room fell into complete, reverent silence.
“Distinguished leaders, friends, and colleagues,” I began, my voice clear, steady, and commanding. “Years ago, I believed that humility meant living quietly, remaining invisible, and allowing others to define the boundaries of my worth. I believed that love required silence in the face of arrogance.”
The audience listened intently, every camera in the hall fixed on my face.
“I was wrong,” I continued, my gaze sweeping across the five thousand delegates. “Humility is not weakness. Humility is knowing exactly who you are, what you stand for, and refusing to let the cruelty of the world compromise your integrity. True power is not measured by the empires we conquer, but by the vulnerable lives we choose to protect, the foundations we build for the next generation, and the courage to stand unbroken when everything around us seeks to tear us down.”
I looked back up at Hazel and Harrison.
“To every woman, to every child, and to every person who has ever been made to feel small by those who mistake kindness for vulnerability: remember that your name, your dignity, and your worth belong entirely to you. Never hide your strength. Never bend your knee to arrogance. And never forget that the greatest legacy you can ever leave behind is a life lived without fear.”
The entire auditorium rose to its feet in another deafening wave of applause.
I placed my hand over my heart, bowed my head slightly, and looked up into the blinding light.

The shadows of Newport, the betrayal of Sterling Montgomery, and the silence of the past were gone forever. Standing on the global stage, surrounded by the love of my family and the strength of our unbroken dynasty, I knew that the story of Genevieve Vance was no longer about surviving the storm.
It was about ruling the sky.
