Chapter 12 - The Sacred Oath

Spring arrived in New York with a gentle, blooming warmth that transformed the city. The dark shadows of the Moretti past had finally dissolved into history. The truth about Julian’s lineage had been sealed away permanently in federal archives—a secret that Dominic, Sophia, and Victor vowed would die with them. Lily would grow up knowing only love, stability, and light.

On a crisp Saturday morning in May, the private gardens of the Moretti estate in Long Island were decorated with white roses, sheer silk drapes, and golden ribbons.

There were no mob bosses present. No bodyguards with hidden weapons. No news cameras or corporate titan political figures.

Just a small, intimate gathering of twenty people—Sophia’s close friends from Brooklyn, Victor Bellini sitting proudly in the front row wearing a sharp navy suit, and a local judge standing near a floral archway overlooking the ocean.

Dominic stood beneath the archway, wearing a tailored black tuxedo. He looked transformed. The cold, dangerous tension that had carved his features for years was entirely gone, replaced by an air of deep, serene confidence.

The string quartet began to play a soft, classical melody.

Dominic looked down the rose-lined aisle, and his heart skipped a beat.

Lily walked out first, wearing a tiny white lace dress with a crown of yellow daisies in her hair. She walked with immense solemnity, carefully dropping pink rose petals onto the carpet with every step, holding Rabbit securely in her small basket.

Then came Sophia.

Dominic’s breath caught in his throat. She was radiant. She wore an off-the-shoulder gown of ivory silk with a long, flowing train that brushed the green grass. She carried a bouquet of white peonies, her dark hair styled in soft waves around her shoulders. Her eyes were fixed entirely on Dominic, shimmering with happy tears.

As she reached the archway, Dominic stepped forward, taking her hand gently. Her fingers were warm, trembling slightly with emotion.

"You look breathtaking," Dominic whispered, his voice rough with love.

"You don't look too bad yourself, Moretti," Sophia murmured back, a dazzling smile breaking across her face.

The judge stepped forward, clearing his throat gently. "Friends and family, we are gathered here today to unite Dominic Moretti and Sophia Carter in holy matrimony. Their journey to this day has been tested by time, hardship, and distance, but true love does not surrender. It endures."

The judge turned to Dominic. "Dominic, do you take Sophia to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, as long as you both shall live?"

Dominic looked deeply into Sophia's eyes. "Six years ago, I thought I lost the beat of my own heart," he said, his voice ringing strong and clear across the garden. "I spent five years living in the cold, believing I was destined to be alone. But you gave me a daughter. You gave me a reason to fight, a reason to change, and a life I never believed I deserved. I give you my heart, my life, and my protection for as long as I draw breath. I do."

Sophia wiped a tear from her cheek, her voice trembling with emotion as she delivered her vows. "Dominic, I hated you for years because I thought you abandoned us. But when you walked through that door three months ago, you proved that real strength isn't about power or money—it's about showing up when it matters most. You fought for our daughter, you fought for me, and you gave us a home. I choose you today, tomorrow, and forever. I do."

The judge smiled. "May we have the rings?"

Lily stepped forward proudly, holding up a small velvet box. Dominic took the golden band, sliding it onto Sophia's finger. Sophia took a matching gold band and slipped it onto Dominic's.

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the judge declared. "You may kiss the bride!"

Dominic pulled Sophia into his arms, dipping her gently as he kissed her with all the passion, devotion, and gratitude in his soul. The small crowd erupted into joyful applause and cheers.

Dominic lifted Sophia back up, and together they reached down, scooping Lily up into their arms between them. The three of them stood under the floral archway, bathed in the golden afternoon sunlight, held tightly in a single, unbroken embrace.
