Chapter 4: The Unpardonable Sin
The room fell into an eerie, suffocating silence.
I turned slowly back to my bride. She was retreating, staggering, clawing at the wall like someone about to drown. She could no longer breathe.
Because the child she had just locked away… wasn't a thief. He wasn't a mere witness.
HE WAS THE FILTHY SECRET SHE HAD BURIED.
Five years ago, to clear her path into my powerful family, she had abandoned her own son. She faked a disappearance. She played the role of the grieving mother to absolute perfection.
And today, when that boy found his way here and recognized the mother who had abandoned him… she tried to lock him away just so she could finish her theater and marry me.
"You are not a human being," I whispered, my voice so cold it froze the room. "You are a monster."
I ripped the white rose from the lapel of my jacket and threw it onto the broken glass at her feet.
