Chapter 9 - The Delaware ShowdownZ

The Wilmington Federal Courthouse in Delaware stood as a imposing fortress of white marble and classic stone under a grey December sky. Hundreds of corporate attorneys, financial journalists, and private security details packed the grand steps, turning the custody hearing into the trial of the century.

Inside Courtroom 302, the atmosphere was suffocatingly tense. The mahogany benches were filled to capacity.

Sitting on the defense side was Spencer Warren, looking formidable in a dark navy suit, flanked by Jocelyn, Julian, and his chief legal counsel. In the front row behind them sat Mrs. Mabel, holding baby Dexter, while Charlee sat quietly between them, wearing a silver heart locket that contained a small photograph of her late mother Daisy and grandmother Florence.

On the plaintiff's side sat Victoria Cooper. She was a woman in her late fifties, impeccably groomed, wearing an extravagant white Chanel suit, diamond earrings, and cold, calculating dark eyes that showed zero warmth or humanity. Flanking her were ten high-priced corporate litigators from Wall Street's most aggressive law firm.

The honorable Judge Eleanor Vance took her bench, slamming her gavel down with a sharp bang that brought absolute silence to the room.

"This court is now in session," Judge Vance announced sternly. "We are here to hear Case 884-B: Vanguard Al-Mansoor vs. Spencer Warren and Jocelyn Cooper regarding asset freeze injunctions and emergency parental guardianship petitions."

Victoria Cooper’s lead attorney stood up, straightening his suit. "Your Honor, our client, Victoria Cooper, represents the primary creditor of Apex Global. We have submitted clear evidence showing that ten million dollars of Apex corporate funds were illegally diverted by Arthur Cooper to fund the illegal fertility procedures that produced the child known as Dexter. As such, the child represents the fruits of an ongoing criminal enterprise. We request an immediate transfer of temporary protective custody to Ms. Victoria Cooper pending international asset recovery."

Murmurs rippled through the courtroom gallery. News reporters typed furiously on their laptops.

Judge Vance looked over her glasses at Spencer’s table. "Mr. Warren, how does the defense respond to these extraordinary claims?"

Spencer didn't wait for his lawyer to speak. He stood up himself, stepping around the legal table and walking calmly toward the center of the courtroom, holding a single black leather leather briefcase.

"Your Honor," Spencer said, his deep voice carrying absolute authority across the room. "The plaintiff claims that my son, Dexter Warren, is an 'asset of crime.' They claim that foreign capital gives them a right to tear an infant away from his biological mother and father."

Spencer opened his briefcase and pulled out a stack of high-resolution, mounted canvases, laying them flat on the evidence table in front of the judge.

"What you see before you, Your Honor, are detailed forensic financial maps painted by my brother, Julian Warren, alongside certified bank records retrieved from Victoria Cooper’s offshore holding accounts in Grand Cayman."

Victoria Cooper’s eyes narrowed, her cold posture freezing instantly.

"These records prove," Spencer continued, his voice ringing like a bell, "that five years before baby Dexter was even conceived, Victoria Cooper herself illegally siphoned over two hundred million dollars from Apex Global’s pension funds to set up Vanguard Al-Mansoor in Dubai!"

The courtroom erupted into total chaos! Photographers leaned over the gallery railings, snapping pictures of the financial maps.

"Objection! Unsubstantiated hearsay!" Victoria’s lead lawyer yelled, springing to his feet.

"It is not hearsay, Your Honor!" Spencer countered, slamming a second set of certified documents onto the judge's bench. "These documents carry the official seal of the United States Treasury Department and the Dubai Financial Services Authority. Victoria Cooper didn't buy Apex Global’s debt to recover money—she bought it to destroy the evidence of her own multi-hundred-million-dollar embezzlement scheme before her brother Arthur’s trial could expose her!"

Judge Vance leaned forward, carefully examining the federal seals on the documents, her face growing colder by the second. She looked up at Victoria Cooper, whose icy demeanor had completely collapsed into a pale, horrified mask of defeat.

"Ms. Cooper," Judge Vance said, her voice dropping into a deadly, stern tone. "Is it true that you are under active federal investigation by the U.S. Treasury Department?"

Victoria opened her mouth to speak, but her lawyers frantically pulled her back into her seat, whispering in terror as two federal marshals stepped quietly into the back of the courtroom.

Spencer stepped right up to Victoria Cooper’s table, leaning down and looking into her trembling eyes.

"You thought you could come after my family, Victoria," Spencer whispered, his voice cold enough to freeze blood. "You thought a child was just a pawn on your corporate balance sheet. But in this family, we protect our children with everything we have."

Judge Vance slammed her gavel down three times, the loud booms echoing like cannon fire off the high walls.

"This petition is dismissed with prejudice!" Judge Vance ruled loudly. "Furthermore, this court finds the plaintiff’s filing to be an egregious abuse of the legal system. I am issuing an immediate freeze on all assets belonging to Vanguard Al-Mansoor within United States jurisdiction, and ordering the federal marshals to take Victoria Cooper into custody pending federal fraud charges!"

The federal marshals marched down the center aisle, pulling a stunned, speechless Victoria Cooper out of her chair and slapping heavy steel handcuffs onto her wrists in full view of forty live news cameras.

The courtroom exploded into cheers and applause! Journalists scrambled for the exit doors to broadcast the historic collapse of the Cooper dynasty.

Jocelyn burst into tears of overwhelming joy, throwing her arms around Spencer as he returned to the table. Julian laughed triumphantly, hugging Mrs. Mabel, while Charlee clapped her small hands together in absolute delight.

Spencer pulled Jocelyn close, kissing her deeply as baby Dexter cooed happily between them, completely oblivious to the massive corporate war that had just been fought and won for his future.
