Chapter 140

Chapter 140: The Autumn Balance
The autumn of 2096 was long and peaceful, the Virginia hills a brilliant canopy of red, gold, and deep amber. Claire spent her days sitting on the front terrace of the old family home, a light cashmere shawl resting over her lap, while young Claire adjusted the automated solar arrays on the roof.
The house had become a place of absolute, historic stillness. The old security screen on the front door remained wide open, allowing the cool mountain breeze to sweep through the rooms where the screaming confrontations had occurred seventy years ago.
Claire opened her digital console, pulling up the master balance sheet of the global trust. She scrolled through the endless pages of names, projects, endowments, and properties. At the very bottom of the screen, the final balance statement read: REVENUE: REPLICATING. LIABILITY: ZERO. STATUS: PERFECTLY BALANCED IN PERPETUITY.
She smiled, leaning her head back against the old wood of the porch pillar. The SUVs were gone. The frantic screams of Janet were gone. The desperate lies of Sabrina were gone. The corporate strategies of Vanguard were gone. The old world of greed, control, and generational sacrifice had been completely liquidated by time, turning into nothing but a gray dust beneath her boots.

"The weather is perfect today, Mom," young Claire said, walking out onto the porch with a fresh tray of tea, her silver-streaked hair catching the evening sun.
"It is perfect, sweetie," Claire said, taking her hand. "The air is clean, the house is quiet, and the road ahead is completely clear."
