Chapter 10

CHAP 10: THE NEW BEGINNING
The morning of the wedding was silent and still. A fresh layer of pristine white snow had fallen overnight, blanketing the grounds of the historic manor in a soft, sparkling coat.
I stood in the bridal suite, looking at myself in the full-length mirror.
My dress was a simple, elegant column of heavy ivory crepe, with long lace sleeves and a dramatic, low-cut back. It was classic and timeless, fitting me perfectly.
On my finger, the sapphire ring gleamed brilliantly against my skin, a striking pop of deep blue against the white of my dress.
Grandma Evelyn stood behind me, helping me fasten the delicate pearl buttons along my spine.
"You look breathtaking, Claire," she whispered, her eyes shining with tears. "Your mother would be furious to see how beautiful you look."
I laughed, a light, free sound. "Let her be furious. She’s not here."
"No," Grandma agreed, kissing my cheek. "She’s not. But the people who love you are."
A knock came at the door. Eleanor, Daniel’s mother, stepped inside, holding a bouquet of white roses and winter greenery.
"It’s time, sweetheart," Eleanor said, her face glowing with joy. "Daniel is waiting."
My heart did a happy little flutter. I took the bouquet from her hands, took a deep breath, and walked out of the room.
The ceremony was held in the manor’s sunroom—a soaring space of glass and dark wood, overlooking the snow-covered gardens. The only guests were Grandma Evelyn, Marcus, Eleanor, and a few of our closest friends, including Sarah from my office.
At the end of the aisle stood Daniel.
He looked incredibly handsome in his black tuxedo, his dark hair styled neatly. The moment his eyes locked onto me, his face softened, a brilliant, emotional smile breaking across his lips.
I walked down the aisle, my hand steady, my heart full. Every step I took was a step away from the pain of my past, and a step toward the beautiful, bright future we were building together.
When I reached him, Daniel took my hands. His hands were warm and solid, grounding me in the present moment.
"You are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
"I love you," I murmured.
The ceremony was brief, simple, and filled with a profound, quiet reverence. We didn't need grand declarations or dramatic showmanship. Our vows were quiet promises of partnership, respect, and unconditional love—things I had never known in my childhood, but had finally found in him.
When the minister pronounced us husband and wife, Daniel pulled me into his arms, kissing me with a deep, desperate passion that left me breathless.
Our guests erupted into cheers, their warm applause echoing through the glass room.
As we walked back down the aisle, hand in hand, I looked out at the beautiful, snow-covered landscape. The sun was beginning to set, casting a warm, golden glow across the white ground.
My past was behind me—a dark, chaotic storm that had tried so hard to pull me down. But I had survived. I had stood my ground, protected my heart, and chosen the path of truth and love.

I was no longer the quiet, overlooked younger sister, living in the shadow of someone else’s greed.
I was Claire, a woman loved, a woman valued, and finally, a woman who was free.
