Chapter 9 - The Strike on Zurich6

Thirty-six hours later.

A sleek, unmarked Gulfstream jet cut through the low-hanging clouds over the Swiss Alps, descending toward a private airfield outside Zurich.

Inside the cabin, I sat across from Arthur Vance. The lawyer looked pale, his hands tightly clasped over a stack of legal documents and corporate intelligence briefs.

"Anna," Arthur said, his voice quiet. "I apologize for my brother. Victor has always been... ruthless. But I never imagined he would cross a line like this. Target a child? It’s barbaric."

"Apologies aren't necessary, Arthur," I said, adjusting the tactical smartwatch on my wrist. "Information is. Is the financial trap set?"

"Completely," Arthur replied, opening his laptop. "Victor leveraged eighty percent of his private capital to short Aegis Global stock on the London exchange, expecting your command to suffer a major security breach or personal scandal that would force you to step down. When you upgraded Project Vanguard's security architecture yesterday, Aegis stock surged by twenty-four percent."

"So he's bleeding money," I observed.

"He's bankrupt," Arthur corrected. "He owes three hundred million dollars to European margin lenders by four o'clock today. If he cannot present proof of controlling interest in the Whitmore Trust, those lenders will freeze every account he holds across Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and the Cayman Islands."

The jet touched down smoothly, taxiing toward a private hangar at the edge of the airfield.

Waiting inside the hangar were three blacked-out armored Suburbans, flanked by six men in civilian suits with subtle earpieces and tactical posture—a specialized private security team deployed by Aegis Global's board of directors under my direct authority as majority shareholder.

We stepped off the plane into the crisp Alpine air.

"Colonel Whitmore," the team leader stepped forward, saluting sharply. "Commander Keller, Aegis Tactical. We have eyes on Victor Vance’s penthouse in central Zurich. He is currently inside with four private security personnel."

"Does he know we're in Switzerland?" I asked.

"No, Ma'am," Keller reported. "He believes you are still at NATO headquarters in Brussels attending military briefings."

"Good," I said, getting into the back of the lead Suburban. "Let's pay Mr. Vance a visit before his lenders do."

The penthouse suite on the top floor of the Zurich Financial Tower offered a three-hundred-sixty-degree view of the city skyline and the pristine lake below. Glass walls, marble floors, and modern art pieces worth millions gave the space the feel of a modern fortress.

Victor Vance stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, a glass of thirty-year-old scotch in his hand, frantically screaming into his phone.

"I don't care about the margin call!" Victor roared. "Give me twelve more hours! The Whitmore woman will be forced to negotiate by tonight! My team in Virginia is—"

The heavy double doors of the penthouse burst inward with a deafening CRACK.

Four Aegis security operators flooded the room, weapon lights cutting through the ambient light, securing the perimeter with lethal efficiency. Within three seconds, Victor's four private guards were disarmed, forced to the marble floor, and zip-tied.

Victor dropped his phone, his scotch glass shattering on the floor. "What the hell is this?! This is private property! I'll have you all arrested!"

I stepped through the shattered doorway, clad in a sharp civilian suit, flanked by Arthur Vance and Commander Keller.

Victor’s eyes widened as he recognized Arthur, then shifted to me. His arrogant posture crumbled into sheer disbelief. "Arthur? What... Colonel Whitmore?"

"Hello, Victor," I said, walking slowly into the center of the room, my heels clicking against the white marble. "I believe you've been looking for me."

"You... you're supposed to be in Brussels," Victor stammered, backing up until his spine hit the glass window.

"And your private security team in Virginia was supposed to breach my estate," I replied coolly, pulling my phone from my pocket and placing it on a marble coffee table. "Would you like to hear how that went?"

I pressed play on a recorded audio file.

Sound of heavy wind, followed by a sharp command: "Drop your weapons! Federal agents! Hands on your head!"

A voice panicked: "Aborting mission! We're compromised! We're—"

Sound of flashbang grenades exploding, followed by quick tactical takedowns.

The recording ended.

Victor went dead white. "You... you ambushed them?"

"The FBI Hostage Rescue Team and Virginia State Police ambushed them," I corrected. "They were arrested the moment they stepped foot onto my outer perimeter. They’ve already confessed that you personally hired them to kidnap my three-month-old daughter."

Victor swallowed hard, trying to regain his composure. "It's... it's a misunderstanding. A legal dispute over trust management—"

"It's foreign terrorism and attempted kidnapping of a military dependent, Victor," Arthur interrupted, stepping forward with a thick legal stack. "And as of ten minutes ago, Swiss federal authorities, acting on an emergency warrant issued by the International Criminal Court, have seized all your local assets."

"You can't freeze my accounts!" Victor yelled. "I have three hundred million due in fifteen minutes!"

"I know," I said softly, looking at my watch. "It’s four o'clock, Victor."

Right on cue, Victor’s phone on the floor began to vibrate violently. A red notification flashed on the screen: ACCOUNT MARGIN DEFAULT - ASSETS LIQUIDATED.

Victor stared at the phone, then collapsed into an armchair, his face buried in his hands. In a matter of minutes, he had gone from a billionaire corporate predator to a bankrupt criminal facing decades in a federal prison.

I walked over to his chair, leaning down slightly so my voice was a quiet whisper right beside his ear.

"Mark Whitmore thought I was weak because I was a woman who loved him," I said, my tone absolute ice. "You thought I was weak because I was a mother. You both made the same fatal mistake."

May you like

I stood up and nodded to Commander Keller.

"Hand him over to the Swiss police."
