Chapter 10

Chapter 10 - Under the Northern StarSix months later, the spring had finally arrived in Oakhaven. The harsh ice had melted, replaced by vibrant green meadows and a sea that was a brilliant, calm cerulean blue. The headlines were very different now. “Prominent Boston Attorney Sentenced to 25 Years for Money Laundering and Domestic Exploitation.” Julian’s empire had collapsed like a house of cards. The public now knew the truth, and Clara’s bravery had become an inspiration for women across New England.
Clara stood inside the main gallery of the Oakhaven Community Center. The walls were covered with her paintings—no longer dark and chaotic, but filled with light, hope, and the rugged beauty of the Maine coast. The exhibition was titled “Whispers of the Northern Star.” It was a massive success, attended by locals and art critics from New York who had traveled just to see the work of the woman who fought back.
Martha stood near the refreshment table, smiling warmly, while Deputy Thomas offered a celebratory toast.
Clara walked out onto the gallery’s back deck, looking out over the harbor where the vintage boats bobbed gently in the water. The evening air was crisp, but it didn't bite anymore; it felt clean.
A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped around her waist from behind. Clara leaned back into Liam’s chest, letting her head rest against his shoulder. She didn't flinch. She didn't feel the need to look for an exit. Her body was completely relaxed, safe in the embrace of a man who loved her for her strength, not her submission.
"You were brilliant tonight," Liam whispered, kissing the top of her head. "The critics are losing their minds over the cliffside series."
May you like
Clara turned around in his arms, looking up into his stormy sea eyes, which were now filled only with warmth. "The paintings are just a reflection of what I found here, Liam. I found my name. I found my art. And I found you."
Above them, the sky deepened into a twilight purple, and the first star of the evening appeared—the Northern Star, bright, constant, and unyielding. It was no longer a guide for a frantic escape in the dark, but a beacon for a life filled with peace, love, and a future they would build together, completely free.
