Zero nine

Chapter 13

The private estate on the cliffs of Maui was bathed in the golden hues of a setting tropical sun.

Soft acoustic guitar music drifted through the air, mingling with the gentle rustle of palm trees and the rhythmic crashing of waves against the black volcanic rocks below.

It was a small, intimate ceremony—no press, no corporate board members, no heavy security teams. Just close friends, soft flowers, and the bright blue ocean stretching into the horizon.

Lucas and Leo stood proudly beside their father, looking remarkably handsome in their matching linen suits, each holding a wooden ring box with solemn importance.

I walked down the aisle of white petals wearing a simple, elegant lace gown. My heart hammered against my ribs, not with fear, but with an overwhelming, breathless joy.

Vincent stood at the end of the aisle, watching me approach. When my eyes met his, I saw the exact moment the final lingering weight of his past evaporated forever. He looked at me as if I were the only person in the entire universe.

When I reached him, he took my hands in his. His palms were warm, steady, and strong.

"Claire," Vincent began, his voice rich and full of emotion. "When you walked into my house six months ago, I was a man living in absolute darkness. I had surrounded myself with walls, waiting for the worst to happen, convinced that protectiveness meant isolation."

He squeezed my fingers gently.

"You didn't just notice the poisoned air in my house... you brought fresh air back into my life. You fought for my sons when everyone else surrendered. You reminded me how to hope, how to trust, and how to love again. I give you my life, my heart, and my absolute devotion, forever."

Tears streamed down my cheeks, bright and warm. I squeezed his hands back.

"Vincent," I said softly, my voice ringing clear over the ocean breeze. "I spent my life caring for other people's families, waiting for a place where I truly belonged. The moment I met you and the boys, I found my home. I promise to stand by you in every storm, to love Lucas and Leo as my own sons, and to build a life with you filled with light, laughter, and truth."

The officiant smiled warmly. "By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Vincent, you may kiss your bride."

Vincent didn't hesitate. He pulled me into his arms, dipping me slightly as he pressed his lips to mine in a passionate, deep kiss that made the small gathering of guests cheer and applaud.

Lucas and Leo immediately ran forward, throwing their arms around our legs, laughing uproariously.

"We did it!" Lucas cheered, jumping up and down. "She's officially our mommy now!"

Vincent pulled me up, wrapping one arm around my waist and using the other to hoist both boys up onto his shoulders. We stood together on the edge of the sun-drenched cliff, surrounded by the warm breeze and the boundless open ocean.

"Ready for our next adventure?" Vincent whispered in my ear, pulling me tight against his side.

I looked at my husband, then at our two beautiful, healthy sons, whose laughter echoed off the ocean waves.

"I've never been more ready," I smiled, stepping forward into our new life together.
