Chapter 10 - The Reckoning of Vance Global

Z

The sunrise over Los Angeles was swallowed whole by a thick, bruised blanket of storm clouds, casting a grim, slate-gray hue across the city’s skyline. By 7:00 AM, the news of the dramatic fire at the Vance estate in Bel-Air and the high-profile arrests of Chloe and Adam had exploded across every major global financial network. Headlines screamed of corporate treason, federal fraud, and a high-stakes power struggle at the highest echelons of American wealth.

Inside the glass-walled boardroom on the top floor of Vance Global Holdings headquarters, the air was suffocatingly thick with panic. The fifteen members of the board of directors—seasoned, ruthless billionaires and institutional investors— sat around the massive oval mahogany table, shouting over one another, their faces pale as they monitored the tumbling stock prices on their tablets.

"The stock is down eighteen percent in pre-market trading!" one senior director slammed his fist on the table. "Where is Adrian?! He hasn't answered his encrypted comms in three hours! The press is calling this a complete hostile takeover from criminal elements!"

"He's right here," a cold, commanding voice cut through the chaos like a shattered sheet of ice.

The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open. Adrian stepped into the room, looking like an absolute force of nature. He was dressed in a pristine, custom-tailored charcoal suit, his dark hair slicked back impeccably. Though he had slept zero hours, his dark eyes burned with an icy, lethal intensity that instantly silenced every director in the room.

Beside him, walking with absolute confidence and wearing a sleek, tailored navy blazer, was me. In my hand, I carried a secure, dark leather briefcase containing the synthesized digital recovery files from my father's patents, along with the decoded transaction ledgers provided by the FBI cyber unit.

"Adrian!" the lead board member, Arthur's old rival Senator Sterling, stood up nervously. "What is the meaning of this? The rumors about your father—about Victor—are circulating in the European markets! People are saying he's alive and operating a shadow syndicate!"

Adrian walked to the head of the boardroom table, taking his seat at the center of power. I stood directly beside him, my posture unyielding.

"The rumors are true, Sterling," Adrian said, his voice terrifyingly calm, vibrating through the silent room. "My father faked his death ten years ago. He created a global shadow network—using firms like Chloe's and men like Adam Reed—to systematically siphon capital and intellectual property from this very company."

A collective, horrified gasp echoed across the table.

"And what are you doing about it?!" Sterling demanded, his hands shaking. "The SEC is preparing an emergency freeze on our assets by noon! If Victor controls the offshore trusts, Vance Global is finished!"

"Vance Global isn't finished, Sterling," I stepped forward, opening the leather briefcase with a crisp click and sliding a stack of legal injunction documents across the polished table. "Because as of 6:00 AM this morning, the United States Federal Court granted an emergency injunction transferring all disputed patent assets into a newly established, independent trust: The Montgomery-Vance Energy Foundation."

The directors scrambled to pick up the documents, their eyes scanning the legal seals in utter disbelief.

"This foundation," Adrian continued, leaning forward, resting his elbows on the table, "holds the absolute, exclusive rights to the clean energy architecture my father tried to steal last night. And as CEO of Vance Global, I have just signed an exclusive, perpetual licensing agreement with Miss Montgomery. The offshore trusts my father used to manipulate our liquidity have been isolated and seized by federal marshals."

"You... you backed him into a corner?" another director stammered.

"No," Adrian said, a slow, dangerous smile spreading across his sharp jawline. "I didn't back him into a corner. I cut off his air."

Before anyone could respond, the massive high-definition video wall behind the executive table flickered violently. The stock tickers and news streams vanished, replaced by a dark, static-filled screen. The room plunged into a sudden, tense silence.

The static resolved into a live, encrypted video feed.

Sitting in a opulent, dark-wood library in an undisclosed location—surrounded by high-tech monitoring stations—was Victor Vance. He looked directly into the camera, his icy blue eyes fixed entirely on his son and me.

"A impressive defense, Adrian," Victor’s voice boomed through the boardroom speakers, rich, heavy, and dripping with paternal condescension. "I must admit, I underestimated the resilience of your little accomplice. She has her father's stubbornness."

The board members froze in terror, staring at the ghost of the company's founder appearing on the screen.

Adrian didn't flinch. He leaned back in his leather chair, staring back at his father on the screen as if looking at a pest. "You're getting predictable in your old age, Victor. Burning my house was a sloppy move. It showed panic."

Victor’s eyes narrowed, a dark, dangerous flash crossing his face before he smoothed it over with a cold chuckle. "Panic? No, my boy. That was a courtesy. I was clearing away your distractions. You were meant for greatness, Adrian. You were meant to rule a global empire alongside me, not waste your intellect playing white knight to a broken girl and her dead father's legacy."

"I am nothing like you, Victor," Adrian said, his voice laced with absolute, unyielding disgust. "You built an empire on theft, murder, and cowardice, hiding in the dark like a rat while better men did the work. You aren't a titan. You're just a thief with a larger bank account."

"Watch your tongue, boy!" Victor slammed his hand onto his desk, his composure momentarily cracking. "I built everything you stand on! I built this company!"

"And today," I spoke up, stepping directly into the camera's field of view, looking Victor dead in the eye through the lens, "we take it away from you."

Victor looked at me, a bitter, contemptuous sneer lifting his lip. "You think a legal injunction stops me, Nora? I hold three billion dollars in dark liquidity across Asia. I own politicians, judges, and private armies. You have a handful of papers and a burning estate."

"Check your Asian liquidity accounts, Victor," I said, a cold, satisfied smile gracing my face.

Victor frowned, his eyes flicking away from the camera to a side monitor on his desk. As he read the data cascading across his screen, the color drained entirely from his face.

"What is this?" Victor whispered, genuine terror finally creeping into his voice.

"While your envoy was burning Bel-Air," Adrian explained, his tone smooth and deadly, "Julian and the federal cyber unit used the open connection from your hardware squeezer to trace your private network back to your primary server hub in Geneva. Every single dark account... every shell company... every illegal bribe ledger... has just been broadcast live to the Interpol financial task force and the Department of Justice."

"You... you used the attack on your house as a digital honeypot," Victor gasped, realizing he had walked directly into a masterfully orchestrated trap.

"You taught me to always think three moves ahead, Father," Adrian said, standing up from his chair, towering over the table, staring at the screen with absolute triumph. "You spent ten years in the shadows. Now, you can spend the rest of your life in a federal supermax."

"Adrian! Wait!" Victor shouted, his voice turning frantic as the sounds of shouting and breaking glass began to echo from his side of the transmission—federal tactical units executing a simultaneous raid on his offshore compound. "I am your father! You need me! You can't run this company without—"

Adrian reached forward and pressed a single button on the control panel.

The screen went black. The transmission was terminated forever.

The boardroom was dead silent. The directors sat frozen, staring at Adrian in a mixture of profound shock and absolute reverence. In less than twelve hours, Adrian Vance had survived an assassination attempt, dismantled an international criminal syndicate, exposed his own legendary father, and secured the ultimate future for Vance Global.

Adrian turned to the board, his posture magnificent. "The board meeting is adjourned. My legal team will handle your resignations by the end of the day."

Without waiting for a response, Adrian took my hand, locking his fingers firmly with mine, and led me out of the boardroom, down the long executive hallway, and out onto the private penthouse terrace overlooking the city of Los Angeles.

The storm clouds above were finally beginning to part, allowing brilliant, golden beams of morning sunlight to pierce through, illuminating the city in warm, radiant light. The air was clean, fresh, and full of infinite possibilities.

We stood at the glass railing, looking out over the horizon. The nightmare was over. The deceit, the fake contracts, the corporate wars, and the painful shadows of our pasts were finally erased, leaving behind only the solid ground of truth.

Adrian turned to me, pulling me gently into his arms. The cold, ruthless titan of industry was gone; in his eyes was only the man who loved me with every fiber of his being.

"It's finally quiet," Adrian whispered, his hands resting gently on my waist, his thumb stroking my hip.

"It really is," I smiled, wrapping my arms around his neck, looking up into his breathtaking eyes. "No more fake dating. No more secret uploads. No more corporate wars."

"Just us," Adrian murmured, leaning down, his lips touching mine in a soft, sweet, promises-filled kiss that tasted of freedom and triumph.

When he pulled back, a handsome, mischievous smile played on his lips. "So, Miss Montgomery... now that your father's legacy is secured and you're the most powerful energy director in Southern California... do you have time in your busy schedule for that real first date?"

May you like

I laughed—a bright, beautiful sound that carried across the sunlit terrace—and rested my head against his chest, listening to the strong, steady beat of his heart.

"For you, Adrian," I whispered, holding him tight as the sun bathed us in golden light, "I have all the time in the world."
