Chapter 11 - A New Dawn

The evening sun cast a long, golden glow over the laboratory downstairs, where dozens of brilliant young scientists were working on therapies that would save thousands of lives.

I looked down at my hand. The pale band of skin where my wedding ring used to sit was completely gone, tanned over by the summer sun.

I had spent years believing that I needed someone else to help me carry the weight of my mother’s legacy. I had let a parasite convince me that I was not enough on my own.
