Chapter 10 - A Vision of Tomorrow

One year later.
The crisp autumn air blew softly across the Blue Ridge Mountains, rustling the brilliant red, yellow, and orange leaves that covered the hillsides surrounding Asheville.
I stood on the newly rebuilt back porch of my new home—a charming, sunlit cottage nestled on a hilltop overlooking the valley. The porch had been crafted out of sturdy mahogany, built exactly to my specifications.
The house in the suburban neighborhood had been sold months ago, the proceeds liquidated and donated to a foundation I established to help victims of domestic abuse and medical fraud. Everything that tied me to my past with Brian had been erased, replaced by a life created entirely by my own hands.
"Gina! The coffee's ready!" Marissa called out, stepping through the glass French doors carrying two steaming mugs.
She handed me a mug, sliding onto the porch swing beside me. We sat in comfortable silence for a moment, watching the morning mist roll over the mountain peaks.
"You know," Marissa said softly, breaking the silence. "Ten years ago, you told me you always wanted to see the autumn leaves in Asheville."
I took a slow sip of my coffee, feeling the warm liquid settle in my chest, looking out at the vast, breathtaking panorama spread before me. The colors were vibrant, vivid, and impossibly sharp—every leaf a testament to survival.
"I used to think that losing my sight was the worst thing that ever happened to me," I murmured, turning to look at my best friend with a gentle smile. "But now I realize... it was the moment I finally opened my eyes."
"And what do you see now?" Marissa asked softly.
May you like
I looked out at the boundless horizon, at the endless sea of color stretching beneath the bright, open sky, feeling the cold mountain breeze on my face—free, whole, and completely unburdened.
"I see my future," I replied. "And it's beautiful."
