Chapter 4 - The Power PlayZ

The transformation did not happen overnight, but within forty-eight hours, the machinery of global finance began to grind Harold Prescott to dust.

While Harold was busy holding press conferences in Connecticut denying the gala incident and claiming his wife was taking a "temporary leave for personal mental health," Owen Rodgers and I were in a private boardroom on the top floor of a glass skyscraper in Wall Street, flanked by eight top-tier corporate attorneys.

"The immediate target is the Prescott Foundation," Owen said, projecting a complex organizational chart onto the digital wall display. "Harold uses the charity as his personal piggy bank. He redirects corporate donations into secondary shell companies that fund his private real estate developments."

"I know," I said calmly, leaning forward over the glass conference table. I pulled out a dark blue flash drive from my purse and set it on the glass. "For eleven years, I kept the physical ledgers. Harold thought I was just filing receipts. He never realized I was cross-referencing his corporate offshore transfers with our charity scholarship disbursements."

The lead attorney, a razor-sharp woman named Victoria Mercer, picked up the drive with a slow, impressed smile. "Mrs. Vance... if what is on this drive matches what you're saying, Harold hasn't just committed financial fraud—he’s committed wire fraud, tax evasion, and embezzlement on a federal scale."

"It matches," I said coldly. "Every single dollar."

"What is your command?" Owen asked, watching me closely.

"Don't leak it to the press yet," I replied, feeling a newfound confidence taking root in my heart. "If we expose him now, he’ll hide behind bankruptcy protection and declare himself a victim of bad accounting. I want him to feel completely secure right up until the moment he tries to seal the foreign power of attorney deal."

"He has a major board meeting this Thursday," Owen noted, tapping his tablet. "He invited his top forty donors to a private dinner at the Metropolitan Club to reassure them that his marriage and his foundation are totally secure."

"Good," I said, a dark smile touching my lips. "Then that is where we will buy his foundation out from under him."

Over the next three days, Owen’s team executed a silent, devastating corporate maneuver. Using Sterling & Vance’s vast capital reserves, we secretly bought up ninety percent of the outstanding debt obligations owned by Harold’s real estate development firm. We purchased his primary bank loans, bought out his mezzanine debt, and acquired the lease on the very building the Prescott Foundation called its headquarters.

Harold Prescott didn't know it yet, but he was no longer operating his empire. He was operating mine.

On Thursday evening, the Metropolitan Club was bathed in warm, golden light. White linen tablecloths, sparkling crystal, and high-end jazz filled the grand dining room—an exact mirror image of the gala where Harold had tried to auction me off less than a week prior.

Harold stood at the head of the long dining table, holding a glass of vintage red wine, addressing forty of New York’s most prominent billionaires and philanthropists.

"I want to thank you all for your unwavering support," Harold said smoothly, his voice filled with practiced warmth. "Recent rumors in the tabloid press have tried to paint a picture of instability within my family and our foundation. But I assure you, Anastasia is simply resting at a private wellness retreat in Vermont. Our foundation remains stronger than ever!"

The guests clapped politely, though the tension in the room was palpable.

Suddenly, the heavy oak doors of the dining room swung open.

The room fell silent as three men in tailored suits stepped inside, followed by Owen Rodgers. And behind Owen walked me.

I wasn't wearing the simple, unassuming dresses Harold always forced me to wear to keep me looking like a humble staffer. I wore a stunning, emerald-green silk evening gown, a high-carat diamond necklace from the Vance family vault, and my hair swept back in an elegant, commanding style.

Harold’s glass froze halfway to his lips. His face went instantly pale.

"Anastasia?" he choked out, his eyes wide with shock and fury. "What... what are you doing here? And what are you doing with him?"

I stepped into the center of the room, my heels clicking sharply against the polished hardwood floor. The forty guests watched in stunned silence.

"Good evening, everyone," I said, my voice echoing clearly across the room without needing a microphone. "I apologize for interrupting such an intimate dinner, but as the newly appointed Controlling Shareholder of Vance Global Assets, I had some urgent business to conduct with Mr. Prescott."

A murmur swept through the crowd. "Vance Global? Did she say Vance?" someone whispered.

Harold slammed his wine glass onto the table, red liquid splashing onto the pristine white cloth. "Security! Escort these people out immediately! She is mentally unstable!"

Two security guards stepped forward, but Owen calmly produced a single piece of laminated legal documentation and held it up.

"Touch her, and your agency will be sued into non-existence by Sterling & Vance’s legal team by midnight," Owen said with cold precision. The guards instantly backed away.

I walked up to the head of the table, stopping just inches from Harold. He was trembling now, a mixture of rage and terror contorting his features.

"You told the press I was at a wellness retreat, Harold," I said softly, leaning in close enough so that only he and the nearest donors could hear. "You told these people that I was living off your success. That I brought in no donors, made no decisions, and was worth five hundred dollars."

I pulled a thick leather folder from Owen’s hands and laid it gently next to his spilled wine.

"This is a legal foreclosure notice," I announced clearly so the whole room could hear. "Vance Global has purchased one hundred percent of the institutional debt held by Prescott Enterprises. As of 5:00 PM today, your real estate holdings are in default."

Harold grabbed the paper, his hands shaking violently as he scanned the lines. "This... this is illegal! You can't do this!"

"I also purchased the lease to the Prescott Foundation headquarters," I continued smoothly. "You have twenty-four hours to vacate the premises. And as the founder’s primary creditor, I am removing you from the Board of Directors effective immediately."

Harold looked around the room frantically, searching for help from his wealthy friends. "John! Arthur! Speak to her! Tell her this is insane!"

The wealthy donors looked away, staring into their plates or drinking their wine in stony silence. They knew how the world worked. Harold was no longer a player. He was prey.

"You built your empire on eleven years of my silent labor, Harold," I said, looking down at him with pure disdain. "You thought I was nothing without you. But the truth is, you were only something because of me."

I turned on my heel and began walking toward the exit.

"You think you won?!" Harold screamed behind me, his voice cracking with desperation and rage. "You think you can just take my life’s work?! I will destroy you, Anastasia! I will reveal everything about your father! I will tell the press who Julian Vance really was!"

May you like

I stopped at the doorway and looked back over my shoulder.

"Go ahead, Harold," I said softly. "My father left me four point eight billion dollars. You have twenty-four hours to pack your desk."
