PART 2: “THIS IS YOUR FAULT!”

The glittering champagne flutes caught the sharp afternoon sun on the sprawling penthouse terrace. It was a gathering of the city’s absolute elite—billionaires, politicians, and media moguls all dressed in bespoke suits and elegant evening gowns, celebrating the high-profile merger of two massive corporate empires. At the center of it all was Audrey, radiant in a tailored beige suit, standing alongside her new husband, Julian, the ruthless real estate tycoon.
Then, the illusion shattered.
A loud splash echoed across the rooftop. A boy, no older than eight, wearing a mud-stained red hoodie and covered in dirt, had lunged forward and slammed a bucket of filthy, murky water straight onto the hood of Julian’s pristine black luxury sedan.
The crowd gasped. The smooth jazz music died instantly.
Audrey flung the car door open, her heels clicking sharply against the wet concrete. Rage flashed across her perfect features as she stepped into the splash zone. "Are you insane?!" she barked, her finger pointed directly at the child.
But the boy didn't run. He stood his ground, his face streaked with tears and wet mud, his body trembling with a mixture of fear and absolute fury. With shaking hands, he pulled a crumpled, torn photograph from his pocket and held it out like a weapon.
"You left my mommy in the rain," the boy choked out, his voice cracking but carrying a weight that silenced the entire terrace. "She died waiting for you. She said you were my real mother."
Audrey froze. The breath was punched clean out of her lungs. Her hand flew to her chest as she stared at the torn image. In the photo, a young woman who looked identical to her—her twin sister, Evelyn, who had vanished eight years ago—lay in a sterile hospital bed, smiling weakly while holding a newborn baby.
"And before she died," the boy sobbed, his eyes locked onto Audrey’s pale face, "she told me why you gave me away."
Whispers rippled through the crowd of socialites like wildfire. Julian’s face darkened instantly. He stepped forward, his hand gripping Audrey’s shoulder with an authoritative, warning tightness. "Audrey, don't listen to this street rat. He’s obviously a scammer trying to ruin our day," Julian hissed, turning to the security guards. "Get this kid out of here. Now!"
"Don't touch him!" Audrey screamed, tearing herself away from Julian's grip. She dropped to her knees, completely ignoring the mud ruining her expensive beige suit. She looked closely at the boy. "Leo... your name is Leo, isn't it? Evelyn... my sister... what happened to her?"
"She waited for you for three hours outside the clinic last night," Leo cried, his fists clenching the fabric of his damp hoodie. "The doctors told her she was dying of heart failure. She just wanted to see you one last time. She said you promised to come if she ever needed you. But you never answered."
Audrey felt her world tilting. She had never received a single call. Then, a horrifying memory clicked into place. Last night, right before their grand celebratory dinner, Julian had taken her phone, claiming he was sending it to be upgraded.
Leo stepped closer, his gaze shifting from Audrey to the towering figure of Julian. "Mommy told me the truth before she closed her eyes. She said you didn't abandon me because you didn't love me. She said eight years ago, a bad man threatened to burn down our family’s charity clinic and ruin your father's legacy if you didn't give the baby up and force Evelyn to run away."
Audrey slowly stood up, turning to face her husband. The mask of the loving partner had completely slipped from Julian's face, replaced by a cold, calculating sneer.
"Audrey, let's be realistic," Julian whispered, stepping close enough so only she could hear his venomous tone. "So what if it's true? Your sister was a liability. Your father's company was failing back then, and my capital saved it. You signed the asset merger agreement twenty minutes ago. If I fall, your family’s entire legacy goes down with me. Play along, put on a smile, and we can handle this 'discreetly'."
Julian thought he had won. He reached out to grab Leo's arm to drag him away himself.
"Get your hands off my son!" Audrey roared.
Before Julian could react, Leo reached back into his pocket and pulled out a second piece of plastic. It wasn't another photo—it was a small remote control. He pressed the button.
Suddenly, a loud crackle echoed over the penthouse's high-end surround-sound speaker system. Julian’s own voice boomed across the terrace, crystal clear and terrifyingly audible to every billionaire and journalist present:
"...So what if it's true? Your sister was a liability... You signed the asset merger agreement twenty minutes ago. If I fall, your family’s entire legacy goes down with me..."
Julian spun around, his eyes wide with horror. He looked at his luxury car. The mud and dirty water Leo had thrown wasn't random vandalism. It had washed away a layer of debris to reveal a small, high-powered wireless microphone taped securely beneath the door handle—the exact spot Julian had been leaning against while whispering his threats to Audrey. Leo hadn't just thrown a tantrum; he had executed a flawless trap.
Down on the streets, the distant wail of police sirens began to rise, growing louder and closer by the second. The journalists in the crowd immediately began snapping photos, their flashes blinding a completely ruined Julian.

Audrey didn't look at the monster she had almost spent her life with. She turned her back on the cameras, the wealth, and the crumbling elite around her. She knelt back down into the mud and pulled Leo into a fierce, protective embrace.
"I'm so sorry it took me eight years to find you," Audrey whispered into his hair, tears streaming down her face. "But I'm never letting you go again."
